Welcome to Road and Roam

Your guide to Road Trip Adventures!

My aim for this blog is to support your dream of creating, planning and booking your very own Road Trip. We will cover all the details from beginning to end in the planning process to help you achieve that holiday you’ve always wanted to take. It can seem like a big mountain to climb when you start thinking about putting together that once in a lifetime trip you’ve always wanted but here at Road and Roam, I’ll give you the confidence to do just that, the way you’ve always wanted to do it!

You never know, you may even see a few more things you may not know existed along the way!

I’m Lisa and I hope I can help bring these dreams to life for you! I have visited 56 countries over my 41 years and I’m still discovering new ways in which to create my own road trips. I feel like there are always new places to see, new things to do and I always have that all time bucket list in the back of my mind! Road and Roam was built in my spare time. I don’t travel 24/7 nor do I work remotely. I’m a professional dog walker as my day job and my background is Finance – I won’t bore you with the details! The majority of the trips I’ve taken (aside from family holidays as a kid) have been taken using my annual leave and fit around what I can afford. There are some very lucky people who get to write travel blogs whilst travelling all day, every day – that’s got to be the dream right?…well maybe for a high percentage of us – but unfortunately I don’t have that luxury so I promise you it’s possible to see a lot of the world whilst having a full time job, a mortgage and commitments!

I live in the UK in the Surrey countryside, it’s beautiful here and I feel very lucky. I live with my long term partner Joe and for the past 4 years we’ve enjoyed a number of great adventures together. We’ve recently bought our first home together and I feel like I’m diving into the unknown world of DIY – not going to lie – I’d much rather stick to organising holidays rather than organising what goes where in the new living room! Before Joe, I was single for 6 years and travelled a lot on my own. I’ve done everything from just taking myself off on a weeks holiday with no plans, to booking myself onto an organised group tour in South America. I also took advantage of a sabbatical in 2019 and went to Costa Rica on my own to work with rescue and rehabilitating animals for 6 weeks. I have to say, taking on that endeavor, on my own, changed my life. I’ve had my fair share of travel adventures and also encountered a few mishaps along the way, it goes with the territory! But hopefully through my experience I can help you discover your own confidence in taking that step towards building your own perfect trip.

I “specialise” in USA road trips, I say this purely because they are my more recent road trips. I have been on 16 road trips all over the world. Some I’ve created myself and some have been on organised tours. But over the last 4 years, Joe & I have taken a two week road trip in the US and covered 14 states (out of the 19 I’ve been able to visit in total). I have to say building road trips in America and discovering this part of the world is my passion and I could talk about it all day – I actually DO talk about it most of the day. A lot of people ask me what my fascination is with travel and the USA; I honestly think it comes from early childhood movies and the type of person that I am, I completely immerse myself in characters and film and I think being in the USA brings out that side of me.

If I’m not writing this blog then you’ll find me walking dogs or hanging out with Joe, friends or family and at this current time trying to find inspiration for home decor! Argh! If I’m having some downtime I’ll be with a travel book – currently loving my new book on USA National Parks – or a Stephen King or I’ll likely be watching NBA – Milwaukee Bucks for those of you asking (this season has been hard to watch!!)– or potentially a film!

Whether it’s Guides and How To’s for the ultimate planning, finding out the essentials and realities of road tripping or helpful hints and tips for packing, budgeting and logistics then Road and Roam is a great place to be! If you’re not at the point of planning your own trip yet, you’ll also find info on my personal travels plus reviews and recommendations and much, much more! I hope you enjoy the read!
